The Brown & Annie Lawrence Home (BALH) unveiled its flag at their home on Wednesday, October 29.
In a short ceremony attended by scores of the home’s residents, longtime resident David Burt raised the flag on the flagpole as residents saw the flag unfurled.
The Pinelands-based non-profit home for seniors is 95 years old, and its digital communications consultant, Margie Thomas, explained that its flag has a semi-circular arch, which is similar to the entrance’s front piece, which is a key feature of the home.
“The introduction of the yellow in the arch is symbolic of sunrise, which signifies a new start, hope, and fresh beginnings,” she said.
General manager of BALH, Helen Matuszek, said they raised their flag for the very first time at their home.
“It symbolises the light of the rising dawn, a new sunrise, a new life starting for residents moving in here,” she said.
Ms Matuszek, their residents will receive care, comfort, and companionship, and all they need in their journey towards the end.
BALH celebrates its 95th anniversary this year, and plans are already afoot for the home’s centennial, which takes place in February 2030.
Ward 53 Councillor, Riad Davids, who was present, said that this senior’s home is a well-run facility. “The residents are happy, and today was a great occasion for everyone to come together to celebrate the flag rising, which is for peace, unity, and the love of mankind,” he said.
